The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is organized by Indian Air Force twice every year for selecting Officers in differnet branches of the force in whole country including
- Flying Branch (Short Service Commission)
- Technical Branch (Short Service Commission and Permanent Commission)
- Ground Duty Branch (Short Service Commission and Permanent Commission)

Eligibility Option:
Posts to apply for – Interested and eligible candidates can apply based on their age and educational qualification for the post of commissioned officers in Flying branch, Ground Duty and Technical Branches of Indian Air Force.
Educational Qualification Criteria: The minimum qualification is Graduation (B.E. / B.Tech. for Flying / Technical branches). and the qualification requirement is differs for various other posts. Also there are some height measures as well.
Flying Branch:-
Education Qualification: – Graduation Degree minimum 3 years in any discipline with minimum 60% marks and have cleared 10+2 class with Math and Physics.
Age Limit for Flying Branch Officer:– Applicants more than 20 years and less than 24 years as on 1st-January-2015
Min Height Measuremnt: 162.5 cms with correlated weight
Min Vision: 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other
Technical Branch:-
Education Qualification:- Bachelor of Engineering and B.Tech in relevant discipline of Engineering with minimum of 60% marks
Age Limit in Technical Branch Officer:-Aspirants must be greater than 20 years and less than 26 years of age as on 01-January-2016
Min Height: 157.5 cms with correlated weight, for women – 152 cms
Ground Duty Branch:-
Education Qualification:– Graduation degree Minimum 3 years in any equivalent discipline subject along minimum of 60% marks for Administration and Logistics posts. Bachelor of Commerce with minimum of 60% marks and Post-Graduation degree in Commerce for the post of Accounts.
Age Limit in Ground Duty Officer:- Aspirants age must be more than 20 years and less than 26 years as on 01-January-2016
Min Height: 157.5 cms with correlated weight, for women – 152 cms
Note:- Candidates, who have already disqualify the PABT test are not eligible for this examination.
Pay Scale – Rs15600-39100 with several other benefits including 50 lakhs insurance.
Salary of IAF Officers – For Flying branch- Rs. 74264
For Technical branch -Rs 65514
For Ground Duty Branches – Rs 63014
Application Fee:– Applicants are exempted from paying any application fee. It means, they do not need to pay application fee.
Selection Process:- Aspirants ca be selected on the basis of written test and Personal Interview test.
AFCAT selection process include following steps
- Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) and Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT – only for Technical branch) organized on 13th September, 2015.
- AFSB Interview
- Screening test
- Psychological test, Group test and Interview
- CPSS and/ or PABT only for Flying branch
Exam pattern:– AFCAT 2 written examination consists of General Knowledge, Math, English and Reasoning. Total Maximum marks are 300. Total 100 questions can be asked and time allowed for the examination is max 2 hours. Each question carry 3 marks and there is 1/3 negative marking. For every wrong answer, their is deduction of 1 mark directly from your total score. No marks can be deducted if the question is left being unanswered.
Those aspirants , who apply for technical branch, must have to attend EKT examination which is organized just after AFCAT.
It is mandatory for applicants applying for technical branch. It consists of 50 questions with one mark for each correct answer.
